Tulsans are coming together to honor and support those working in the nursing field.
The Eastern Oklahoma Black Nurses Association (EOBNA) is hosting a special gala as a fundraiser to support its community initiatives.
The Lab Coat & Sneaker Gala will help elementary and middle schools raise obesity awareness and educate the community on chronic diseases like heart disease and COPD. The association also partners with local churches to provide health screenings.
Gala Chair Lisa Allen says that while the organization primarily serves Black nurses, the event is designed to celebrate all who give back to the profession.
“Nurses are the backbone of hospitals,” said Lisa Allen, EOBNA charter member. "We’re the backbones of our communities, and we do a lot of great work out here. We’re also going to have a guest speaker from the National Black Nurses Association. They will speak on maternal health."
The gala is set for Oct. 19 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa.
