The Teamsters union could make an endorsement in the presidential campaign as soon as Wednesday, traditionally supporting Democrats.

Vice President Kamala Harris met with union leaders in Washington, D.C., on Monday in an effort to secure their support. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump continues to focus on immigration.

Harris visited the Teamsters headquarters on Capitol Hill in a bid to win the union’s endorsement.

“When there are two contenders in a fight, a lot of focus will be on what the other person hasn’t done and what they’re going to do. So there’s a lot of conversation like that,” said Teamsters President Sean O’Brien.

The Teamsters, who have historically backed Democrats, have yet to endorse a presidential candidate this year. In July, O’Brien became the first Teamsters president to address a Republican National Convention.

“We don’t just represent registered Democrats. We represent registered Republicans and Independents, and we have to,” O’Brien said.

Former President Trump conducted his interview with the Teamsters back in January. His campaign says Trump will continue with planned events this week, even as the FBI investigates an apparent assassination attempt Sunday at his West Palm Beach golf club.

Trump's campaign is also working to arrange a trip to Springfield, Ohio, where he previously made false accusations that immigrants were eating pets. His running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, defended the use of false claims.

“If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do,” Vance said on CNN's "State of the Union."

On social media, Trump again referred to people crossing the border as "terrorists," "criminals," and "mentally insane," calling for their immediate deportation.

Meanwhile, two elementary schools in Springfield, Ohio, were evacuated Monday after receiving threats. The school district says these are the fifth and sixth schools to face threats of violence in the past week but did not specify the nature of the threats.
