Gracen Halton, a junior defensive lineman at the University of Oklahoma, was honored as the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday for his standout performance in the Sooners' 16-12 victory over Houston on Saturday. He shared the accolade with Alabama's Tim Keenan III.
In Saturday's game, Halton made significant contributions with two tackles for loss, including a sack and a crucial safety. His sack, a loss of 11 yards, and the safety, achieved with a five-yard stop on a run play with 1:42 remaining, proved to be pivotal. This safety was the only scoring play for OU in the second half, helping the Sooners to secure the win. Halton's efforts were instrumental in limiting Houston to just 58 rushing yards and 1.7 yards per carry.
Originally from San Diego, California, Halton entered the season with 3.5 career tackles for loss and no sacks. This season, he is now second among SEC defensive linemen with 3.5 tackles for loss and has accumulated 2.5 sacks for a total loss of 20 yards.
