While other districts in the Oklahoma City metro are experiencing staff shortages, 15,000 students in Norman are heading back to fully-staffed schools, the district says.
Norman Public Schools said this year, the district is not experiencing a bus driver or teacher shortage.
The district says its ability to offer incentives, as well as community support, have made a huge difference.
When it comes to school buses, NPS says it hires bus assistants who can watch the students, allowing the driver to focus solely on the road, making it safer for everyone aboard.
As for teachers, the district said it offers excellent professional development and encourages career growth to attract the best teachers.
For the students walking in the door Thursday morning, the district said its goal of consistent attendance can make all the difference in students' education.
To help with this goal, the district now has an app that families will be able to use to communicate with their child’s teacher.
