Waste is a huge problem in the beauty industry.  According to Forbes, 120 billion units of plastic waste are produced every year.

One local woman decided enough was enough and launched a business dedicated to both eliminating waste and helping women look incredible embracing their natural hair.

"I hated my curly hair entirely growing up. It was just a nightmare for me knowing I had to deal with it all the time and I straightened it for 20 years," the owner of Vida Bars Ana Nuñez said.

Ana's daughter started to feel the same way. "It really stemmed from my daughter starting to hate her hair and I didn't want that for her."

So, Ana started embracing the very thing she had tried to hide for so long. "I get so many compliments on my hair because it is pretty, I just didn't know it was pretty so I love helping people find that,” Nuñez said.

I am Latina and I love showcasing that part that as an entrepreneur it can be someone that looks like me, someone that has the gold hoops and the big hair," Nuñez said.

Now, her products are taking off with customers all over. "It is really cool to me being from Oklahoma and having a business here. We are starting to get international. We sell our bars at every single state in the U.S.,” Nuñez said.

She is inspiring to others. "You don't have to be perfect, you don't have to have all of the business knowledge, you have to believe in what you are doing and you have to put in a lot of work," she said.

Making a difference, one shampoo bar at a time.

"Just to think that like this tiny company that started in my kitchen late at night after work and to grow that in Oklahoma where maybe you don't hear about a lot of things happening is pretty cool," Nuñez said.
