Winter is making its presence known across Oklahoma, and if you thought it was already cold, brace yourself—it's about to get even colder.
A winter weather system is moving in, bringing frigid temperatures, wind chills near zero, and a chance for snow.
Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect over the next few days.
What is the weather like in Oklahoma today?
This morning, temperatures are already biting, and they will only drop further. Wind chills will be in the single digits tonight, and by tomorrow morning, they’ll plunge to near or below zero.
While Oklahoma City might dodge the worst of it, areas to the north and northwest will experience some dangerously cold conditions. Bundle up—it’s not beach weather out there!
Northwestern Oklahoma is under a traveler advisory this afternoon as snow develops.
By evening, a narrow band of snow will push south.
However, it will weaken as it moves, meaning lower accumulations in central Oklahoma.
Northwestern Oklahoma can expect 1 to 3 inches of snow, with a few isolated spots getting more.
Oklahoma City Metro: A dusting of about half an inch is enough to create slick roads but not enough to cause significant issues.
Snow chances are lower, and accumulations will be minimal in southern Oklahoma.
Whats the weather like for the rest of the week?
Tuesday morning will start off brutally cold, with temperatures in the single digits and wind chills falling below zero in many areas.
The snow will begin developing in northwestern Oklahoma early in the day and continue pushing south throughout the afternoon and evening.
Most of the accumulation will stay north, with 1 to 3 inches possible in those areas, while the metro will see minimal snowfall. The snow will begin tapering off between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., leaving behind dangerously cold conditions overnight. With lows dropping into the single digits, any snow that does fall will stick, increasing the potential for slick roads during the Wednesday morning commute.
By Wednesday, the bitter cold will still be in place early, with wind chills in the single digits and lower teens.
However, there’s good news—temperatures will finally improve by the afternoon. Highs will climb into the low 40s, offering a much-needed break from the deep freeze.
A weak front will move through Wednesday night, causing a slight temperature dip, but overall, conditions will be trending warmer as we head toward the weekend.
By late week, highs will reach the 40s and 50s, with a mostly dry pattern in place.
