State Department Of Corrections Invests In Hiring Healthcare Professionals

Oklahoma Department of Corrections has invested $6 million to recruit health professionals for state prisons.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections has invested $6 million to recruit health professionals for state prisons.

The DOC is hiring nurse managers, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, lab techs, and medical coordinators for positions throughout the state.

“We have increased pay scales to where their competitive and sometimes beyond competitive," DOC chief of communications Josh Ward said. "We are using rollover funds from operating fund because we had some critical needs in the healthcare side."

Ward said those who accept jobs in the prison system could also get perks such as a sign-on bonus. That isin addition to the benefits offered to other state workers.

Starting salary for nurses is at $83,000 per year, and nurse managers start at $100,000 a year.
