A Green Country mother who lost her son after one short year of life is honoring him for his birthday for a second year by doing something good for others.

"Lincoln was born on September 23rd of 2017 and he died on October 5th of 2018," said Sydney Meeks. "This is our third birthday without him."

When we experience loss in our lives, when tragedy strikes - we have different ways of handling grief.

"Lincoln would be turning four in September," Meeks said.

After losing her son Lincoln, Meeks has a beautiful way of expressing her grief on his birthdays.

"It is amazing what he is still doing even though he is not here," said Meeks.

Baby Lincoln died from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. Each year Meeks does something for someone else, in her son's honor. Last year she collected children's books and donated them to the Tulsa library. 377 books was the goal - one for every day her son was alive.

"We collected over 400 books," said Meeks.

This year, she is collecting donations for a hospital in a rural area in Mexico that serves children in need.

"The area of Copper Canyon has a child mortality rate of 50% so that means that about one out of two children die before the age of five," said Meeks. "The hospital has about 40 employees. They have a dirt road and an airstrip, and they serve the people of these villages."

She is collecting toys and crafts, fun things that kids who are in the hospital might never have the opportunity to own. She is also collecting hospital supplies.

"This year, as of this morning, we have collected 582 gifts," said Meeks. "There is a ministry called Raven's Ministry, they are based in Colorado and they kind of currier packages over the canyon and they are taking all of our supplies over."

The gifts will be taken to the hospital in two trips, all in honor of baby Lincoln on what would have been his fourth birthday.

"My prayers that I prayed for him as a little boy are still being answered. I prayed that he would be a world changer," said Meeks.

Meeks set up an Amazon Registry Wishlist for the hospital. You can help her with donations to honor her son by clicking here.
