Vaccination card scams are on the rise - and the FBI is now calling the use of a fake one a crime that could be punishable.

"The unauthorized use of an official government agency's seal is a crime and may be punishable under federal law," according to the FBI.

Buying or selling a fake vaccine card is misrepresentation, according to the FBI, that could lead to fines and even jail time.

Kitt Letcher with the Better Business Bureau said buying a fake vaccine card may save yourself from getting vaccinated - but your information could be getting scammed in the process.

"When they're purchasing these cards, they're opening themselves up to a multitude of other financial and identity theft issues,” Letcher said.

Letcher recommends saving yourself the heartache and just getting the vaccine.

“If it's a waiting game, I don’t have the time, energy, it doesn’t cost anything. There's no reason not to do it, if you are looking at it from that perspective,” Letcher said.
