The City of Tulsa is offering to help pay for emergency home plumbing repairs to fix damage caused by last month’s freezing temperatures.

The grants are available to lower income homeowners who have not yet had the plumbing repaired. The money does not have to be paid back.

The program is the same one used before to repair roofs after the North Tulsa tornado, and repair weather heads damaged in the ice storm.

"We knew that we were going to have a lot of people wake up after the thaw and realize they had a lot of water leaks, and that qualifies as the emergency program just by nature,” program coordinator Brant Pitchford said.

Pitchford said applications are already coming in.

The grants are for emergency repairs only, and only up to $5,000 per house. There is an income qualification guideline, and the deadline to apply is March 19.

Pitchford said the process from application to repair can be just a few days.

"They actually fill out an application, we send an inspector out to verify that those conditions exist, we put it out to bid to our list of plumbers, they complete the repairs and we pay the plumber directly," Pitchford said.

The homeowner has no out-of-pocket expense.

The application can be found online here or can be handled over the phone by calling 918-576-5552.
