In an Allen Fieldhouse unlike any other year – void of KU’s home court advantage – the Cowboys couldn’t take advantage, falling to the Jayhawks, 78-66.

The two teams have played each other only three times when the Pokes were ranked, and KU was not. The last time it happened – 1983 and current KU Coach Bill Self was playing for the Pokes.

This matchup on the day of a historic Associated Press poll. The Kansas Jayhawks, unranked for the first time in 12 years and the Pokes ranked 23, their first ranking since February 16, 2015.

Both teams were sloppy in the first half, OSU shooting just 33% from the field and 12% from three. The Cowboys turned the ball over 12 times just in the first.

The Cowboys allowed KU to edge ahead in the second and maintained that margin in the Big Monday battle. The Pokes couldn’t ever get quite over the hump.

The Pokes finished shooting 34% from the field and just 26% from beyond the arc. They cleaned up some turnovers in the second half of the contest, adding six to make it 18 for the game.

Cade Cunningham led the Cowboys’ point column with 26, but the only others to put up substantial numbers in that column were Avery Anderson with 13 and Isaac Likekele with 10.

The Cowboys bested the Jayhawks in the first matchup of the season, 75-70 but can’t follow through for the season sweep.

OSU falls to 5-6 in the Big 12 and will host Kansas State at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
