Officials with the Oklahoma County Detention Center said a detainee died Friday evening.

The man, identified as 47-year-old Eddie Hollins, stated he was having chest pains. The inmate's cellmate reported Hollins was no longer responsive while authorities were in route to his cell.

Officers and medical staff both attempted life-saving measures. Hollins was taken to St. Anthony Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.

The state medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the detention center following a number of inmate deaths at the jail.
