Hiland Dairy Foods announced it is recalling its half pint 1 percent low fat chocolate milk cartons.

The recall was announced Sunday after children consumed them and became sick.

The company said the cartons contained "food-grade sanitizers, which can cause sickness if consumed."

Hiland Dairy Foods said the contaminated milk was distributed from its Norman facility to the Oklahoma City metro area, portions of western Oklahoma as well as Dallas, San Antonio and Tyler, Texas.

The product's affected code date is Jan. 27, 2021. Its UPC number is 72060-00156-3 with a plant code of 4025.

Piedmont Public Schools sent a letter to its campus community Sunday, which said that the chocolate milk in question "may have been part of district food deliveries last week."

The district has asked its community to dispose of these products immediately.
