As the election grows near, both of Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District's candidates continue to disagree on health care.

Republican state Sen. Stephanie Bice said she wants an alternative to the Affordable Care Act.

“I think Oklahoma families are feeling the brunt of Obamacare with the increase in premiums they've seen over the last decade. My family has a significant increase in those health care costs,” Bice said.

Bice said she wants to replace the Affordable Care Act with something else.

“I think that there are things that we can put in place as a stop gap until we can come up with a full-fledged replacement,” Bice said of repealing the ACA during the pandemic.

There are aspects of the current system Bice would keep. She said covering preexisting conditions is vital.

“Preexisting conditions, certainly. Keeping kids on insurance through 26 is something we can certainly continue to look at and keep if we feel like that is helping those young people,” Bice said

Bice has floated the idea of using of government-provided health savings accounts.

“Health savings accounts that are provided to low income families, they could utilize those dollars to be able to spend on things like insurance, deductibles, prescription drug costs,” Bice said.

Overall, Bice said she wants a plan that encourages free market competition.
