Help will be available this month for people in Tulsa County struggling to pay their rent.

Millions of dollars in rental assistance is currently available, and the group Allied Communities of Tulsa Inspiring Our Neighborhoods (ACTION) wants to make sure that money helps people who need it. ACTION is a coalition of nonprofits that represents about 5,000 Tulsans whose mission is to advocate change by acting collectively to improve quality of life in the Tulsa area.

The money is part of $20 million given to Oklahoma and Tulsa County from the federal CARES Act. To receive assistance, you will need to fill out an application, which is due on October 31.

ACTION is holding a couple clinics throughout Tulsa to help people with that process and upload the necessary documents.

One of those is Wednesday, October 21, from 3 - 7 p.m. at Fellowship Congregational Church near 31st and Harvard. The other is October 28 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Hope United Methodist Church near 31st and Garnett.

You'll need to have the following documents in order to receive help:

  1. Copy of your lease (Both tenant and landlord signatures on lease are required)
  2. Contact info for landlord (Name, Phone number, and Address)
  3. Unemployment eligibility letter and/or determination letter for the applicant or a named
  4. leaseholder. If not receiving unemployment, one of the following is needed but not both:
  5. ● Letter from employer on employer letterhead, OR
  6. ● a pay stub from Jan or Feb 2020 and a current pay stub reflecting a reduction of hours (dated last 60 days).
  7. Utility Bill (the person on the utility bill must be on the lease).

According to Eviction Lab, an estimated 103,600 Oklahomans will become homeless when the eviction moratorium is lifted on December 31 .
