The Oklahoma State Election Board has issued a warning after a voter received a fraudulent message about their polling place.

The board said someone texted a voter last Friday claiming that person's polling place had changed, then asked the voter to reply to confirm their name. The board says a call back number in the text went to a male escort service.

Oklahoma State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said the case has been turned over to law enforcement to investigate.

“Disinformation about the voting process is a real threat. Voters should be very cautious about phone calls, emails, social media posts and text messages containing false information about elections - and report suspicious communications to election officials immediately," Ziriax said.

The election board said polling place changes are rare in Oklahoma. And in the instance it does happen, the voter's county election board will mail out a notification. It will never contact voters by text message.

Voters can use the OK Voter Portal on the State Election Board's website or contact their county election board to find or verify their polling place.
