The Nestle Purina plant in Edmond is back up and running after dozens of employees tested positive for COVID-19, forcing production to shut down temporarily.

Purina said it plans to hold another COVID-19 testing event next week for employees, along with daily wellness screenings and temperature checks.

A Nestle Purina spokesperson said earlier this month, the company conducted widespread testing after learning several employees tested positive for COVID-19. 41 of those tests came back positive.

Now, those employees and anyone in close contact with them are in quarantine until they are considered no longer contagious.

Purina shut down production on Tuesday so it could deep clean the factory.

The company said equipment is disinfected throughout the day and they use electro-static mist to sanitize common areas every night.

In a statement, the company said quote, "At Nestle Purina, the health and safety of our associates is always our top priority, and particularly during the pandemic."

Purina says two educational campaigns are in the works to teach employees about COVID-19 and how to spot the virus during cold and flu season.
