Lindsay native Mark Smith drove his airboat to Lake Charles, Louisiana to make a difference.

Smith teamed up with the Cajun Navy as Hurricane Delta hit parts of Louisiana and Texas early Friday.

"When I got down here, there was already so much debris when Delta came with 100 mile an hour winds,” Smith said. “It did more damage."

Smith founded a non-profit called "Air Hope" back in 2017. Prior to starting the organization, Smith volunteered his timed by using his pilot license to transport cancer and burn victims.

"I've taken them to get treatments and such,” Smith said.

Smith said he desires for his non-profit to raise enough money to purchase a plane and help people in disaster areas.

"I became a pilot and I really wanted to go into the mission field or some way to be helpful to people,” Smith said. "We ended up purchasing an 11-passenger air boat and it has a Corvette LS engine on it."

Smith said the non-profit does what it can to offset his cost for missions. However, Smith said he hopes the non-profit can fund everything.
