Oklahoma Delegation Responds To Report on State’s COVID-19 Transmission

The latest report from the White House Coronavirus Task Force said there have been preventable deaths in Oklahoma in the last month.

Governor Stitt strongly disputes that and said that Oklahoma is actually doing better than most states. Members of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation have been hesitant to second guess decisions made by Governor Stitt related to the pandemic. That’s still mostly the case following the release of this latest report.

Sen. Jim Inhofe, (R) Oklahoma:

“The White House continues to provide considerable support for our state and local leaders as they continue to combat the virus. This week’s report highlights the importance for all of us to follow CDC recommendations to lower community spread.” 

Spokesman, Rep. Frank Lucas, (R) OK – 3rd District:

“As he has done publicly throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Congressman Lucas continues to follow and urge his fellow Oklahomans to follow CDC guidelines to ensure the health and safety of our friends and neighbors. Rep. Kevin Hern, (R) OK – 1st District:

“I mourn every life coronavirus has taken from us. It’s a hard balance, protecting our citizens without infringing on their rights and freedoms, but I believe Oklahomans are taking the virus seriously. Our hospitals and medical workers are working hard every day to keep our people healthy and safe.”

Rep. Kendra Horn, (D) OK – 5th District:

“We have to listen to the advice and recommendations of our public health officials during this pandemic. Wearing a mask, washing our hands and practicing physical distancing are the most effective way to lower COVID transmission, cases and deaths. Over a thousand Oklahomans have died because of this virus - deaths that could have been avoided with proper precautions. The only way for our economy to bounce back is by reducing the spread of this disease.”

“Certainly, we’re all ready for business as usual and for life to return to normal. While we’re making great progress toward a vaccine and learning how to better treat COVID-19, the pandemic is not yet over. In the meantime, the best thing every American can do is continue taking practical precautions and following the ongoing guidance provided by our health officials.”
