The Rogers County Sheriff's Office will receive $250,000 over the next three years and said they will use the money to hire two new investigators to help stop violent crimes.

The money comes from the Department of Justice’s "COPS Hiring Program."

Applicants were asked to identify a specific area and Rogers county officials picked violent crimes.

Sheriff Scott Walton said the current investigators are overwhelmed with work and the grant money used on the hires will now free up cash for other expenses.

Walton said the county has nearly 90 thousand people and wants to amplify the message that Rogers County is not the place for criminals.

“It’s the thugs we stay focused on. Violent crimes fall certainly right in that mix and this grant is geared to help us combat that. I want people to know and I certainly believe that Rogers county is a bad place for a thug to hang out," said Walton.

Other recipients of the grant include the Muscogee Creek Nation and the Owasso and Bixby Police Departments. In total nearly $1.6 million will be given out.
