The presidential election is six weeks away and Senate Republicans are gearing up to try and confirm President Donald Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court by the end of this year.

President Trump is expected to announce his nominee to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the end of this week.

The president said yesterday that he had narrowed down his choices to five, stating that he would announce his decision by Friday or Saturday.

The nominee is expected to be a conservative woman who could reshape the court if approved.

Vice President Pence said "I'm proud to serve alongside the most pro-life president in American history. And I know that same standard will be met with his nominee to fill this vacancy on the Supreme Court."

The President said he plans to meet with some of the candidates before making his decision.

U.S. Court of Appeals judges Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa are the top contenders.

Barrett is a mother of seven with strong pro-life views.

Lagoa is a first generation Cuban American from Florida.

She has served longer than Barrett and was confirmed to the court of appeals with bi-partisan support.
