An Oklahoma City mother shared an emotional plea on Friday for an accused killer to turn himself in.

The suspect, who police said shot and killed Jamesetta Ward’s son on August 31, has been on the run for weeks.

Investigators have gotten closer to justice for 33-year-old Jonathan Ward’s family. They identified the murder suspect as Muhammed Sanders, 24, and have a warrant for his arrest.

Ward spoke to reporters outside the Oklahoma City Police Department headquarters.

“Taking him away from me has changed my whole life,” said Jamesetta Ward, victim’s mother.

Jamesetta Ward got the life-altering call from police nearly two weeks ago. Her son died after being shot five times. Witnesses told police Jonathan Ward had an argument at the Plaza Inn on Interstate 35 with a man.

“I started screaming and crying in my car, screaming and crying because I love my son so much,” said Jamesetta Ward. “I feel like he took a part of me. You know like I lost a whole life.”

Jamesetta Ward said the suspect took away a father of six with the youngest child being only 3 months old.

“This one was born on his birthday and so he took all that from them,” said Jamesetta Ward. “He will never get to see them graduate, never get to see this one walk. He don’t get to see nothing no more because that guy took it upon himself to take his life.”

Jamesetta Ward is not only devastated, she feels betrayed. She was acquainted with Sanders from seeing him around her neighborhood.

“I’ve seen him at the store before and he spoke to me,” said Jamesetta Ward.

Now, she wants to see him behind bars. She asked Sanders to turn himself in, and if not, police are not far behind.

“I want justice for my son,” said Ward. “I want the person that took my son away from me to be found.”

If you know where the suspect can be found or his whereabouts, you are asked to call the homicide tip line at 405-297-1200.
