An Oklahoma City man was arraigned on Monday for allegedly abusing a three-month-old baby and his girlfriend. The judge set 20-year-old Chase Northington’s bond at $50,000. He is being held in the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of child abuse and domestic abuse.

Police were called to St. Anthony hospital over the weekend after a woman brought in her injured newborn child. She accused Northington of abusing her and the baby.

According to the report, Northington and the woman got into an argument at their home when he threatened to throw the baby. The report states, he grabbed the baby's leg and then started pushing and throwing things at his girlfriend.

Northington's violent behavior escalated from threats towards the baby to actions.

“Later he did pick up the child and threw the child at the woman,” said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department. “The woman was actually able to catch the child preventing it from being seriously injured.”

The woman told police Northington was also carrying her baby around by one arm refusing to put the baby down. The man allegedly refused to give her the child back, so she called a family member to help.

“She told officers she called 911 initially but we didn’t have record of it,” said Knight. “From looking at her phone it appeared she was dialing when the call dropped and never got through.”

She was eventually able to get the baby from Northington and has not returned to the home. Police arrested the suspect after seeing the baby and mother's injuries.

“He was booked into jail on a number of complaints,” said Knight. “Including child abuse and domestic abuse.”

Police said thankfully neither of the victims had serious injuries.
