SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- Three horses found in emaciated condition on some property in Shawnee were rescued just in time, according to local veterinarian Dr. Mike Stewart.

"These horses are pathetic," says Stewart. Referring to a male horse, Stewart adds, "this particular horse here couldn't lose another ten, fifteen, twenty pounds, and he's a dead horse."

The property owner where the horses were found, John Spangler, was arrested for cruelty to animals, but no charges have been filed so far. Authorities say they also found a stolen RV on Spangler's land.

Mike Stewart and his staff have been feeding the horses good food-- but in limited amounts because the horses' digestive system can't handle too much. But life is good for the horses right now. "You can see they're pretty happy horses now," Stewart says.
