Two men suspected of burglarizing at least two cars in Edmond are behind bars following a traffic stop Sunday night.
A police officer on patrol spotted a suspicious car pulling out from behind Edmond Furniture Gallery on Broadway around 7 p.m. on January 29. The officer could not read the license plate because it was covered, so he pulled over the white Ford Taurus.
The officer said there were two men inside the car, and when he approached the vehicle he smelled marijuana. The two suspects were detained while the officer searched the car.
Inside, the officer found property stolen during two car burglaries that had been reported earlier in the day. One burglary took place at Chitwood Park in Edmond, and the other happened in Oklahoma City. The officer also found drug paraphernalia in the car.
Police arrested 27-year-old Benny Lee Doe and 33-year-old Gregory Campbell, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. They were booked into Oklahoma County jail on several counts of concealing stolen property, possession of stolen credit cards, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police aren't sure if the two men are responsible for a string of car burglaries in Edmond. They are urging people to stay vigilant and call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
