People across the country and in Oklahoma City are rushing out to take the last of the Twinkies still on store shelves.

With some 500 million Twinkies produced a year, all that's left at Crest was the chocolate kind as of earlier Friday afternoon. Several stores in the metro reported that their Twinkies are now sold out as well.

With Hostess reaching its expiration date, Francesca Mosley worries about the shelf life of one of her favorite snacks, Twinkies.

"I'm here stocking up on Hostess donuts, Twinkies, and Ding Dongs. Because they are not going to be there no more," Mosley said.

Mosley worries the snack cakes will just be a childhood memory.

The Twinkie is legendary, an iconic treat since 1930. Hostess announced it will close its doors, but makers hope to find a buyer for many of their brands.

"I was shocked and so was my husband that they were doing this, what are we going to do?" Marilyn Blackburn said.

Marilyn Blackburn shops at the Hostess Stores once a week. She's loyal because her husband used to make the yellow sponge cakes.

Last year, Hostess reported a loss of $340 million.
