Edmond police are investigating a string of home burglaries they believe are all connected.

All the burglaries happened April 20 within about a three-mile radius of Broadway and 15th Street.

Police said the thief seemed to have just one focus when targeting the homes, even passing up other valuables in the process.

"I kind of banged on my window to get him off my deck," said one pregnant victim named Shelly.

Shelly said she unknowingly interrupted what could have been her own home burglary.

"He wasn't in the house yet, he was just right off the screened in porch, just looking at everything," Shelly explained.

Shelly just happened to look out her window near West Edmond Road and North Santa Fe when a burglary suspect was feet away from her unlocked door.

Police said they believe the same guy targeted Shelly's home and six others.

All the other homes had the side, back or front doors kicked in.

Police said when the thief broke into a home in the 600 block of Mary Lee Lane, a woman was inside with her 2-year-old son. She called 911, grabbed the kid and ran out of the house to safety.

"Right after that, it was just a series of call after call after call throughout the day yesterday," Jenny Monroe, with Edmond Police, said.

Police said the thief passed up electronics, cell phones and prescription medicines that are typically stolen in home burglaries and stole loose change instead, $500 in total from the crimes.

Shelly said she is going to start using all the safety measures she already has at her home on a regular basis.

"Having some babies soon, twin girls, and just being able to have that awakening to lock up the house consistently," Shelly said.

The suspect was described as wearing gym shorts and a white T-shirt, about 16 to 19 years old and driving an older model white sedan.
