Crews had to work quickly to save a housing addition, near the Moore-Norman city lines, from a large wind-driven grass fire, Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters were called out to the scene in the 5300 block of W. Indian Hills Rd. and 48th Ave. NW, just to the south of Southmoore High School, shortly after 2 p.m.
Winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour in a southeasterly direction made things difficult for firefighters to douse the blaze, and moved the fire rapidly along, from a relatively rural area to suddenly at the fence line of Norman housing addition.
The cause of the fire still has not been determined. Authorities had to shut down several roads in the area while crews fought the fire.
Norman and Oklahoma City firefighters were called in to get a handle on the situation. No structures were damaged in the blaze. So far there is not an estimate of how much land has burned .
