Police are looking into the death of a 10-month-old girl in southwest Oklahoma City.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, February 3, police were called to a residence near S.W. 44th Street and Woodward to check on the welfare of a child. Paramedics were already working on young Lyrik Martin when officers arrived.
An ambulance rushed Lyrik to Children's Hospital, where doctors discovered the baby had head trauma and numerous broken ribs. They believed the baby had been abused.
The hospital notified police on Monday that Lyrik had died from her injuries.
According to a police report, Lyrik's mother Arian Martin told police the little girl had been sick and throwing up for a couple of days. She said she and her boyfriend, Michael Bruner, took the child to a hospital where Lyrik was diagnosed with an ear infection.
Martin told police she put the child to bed around 9 p.m., but when she checked on Lyrik around 11:30 p.m., the baby wasn't breathing. That's when Martin called 911. The child was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.
Police have not made any arrests in the case, but they are investigating.
