There was heartbreak for a family in Moore after an apartment fire Friday morning claimed the lives of their two young children.

It happened at the Nottingham Square Apartments near N.W. 27th Street and Janeway Avenue.

The tragedy has many saddened at the large apartment complex, especially since the family had only been living there a couple months.

The mother's childhood friend and neighbor Ashley Samples said she spoke briefly to the mom, who was in a state in a shock.

“She's like my babies, they're dying,” said Samples. “She was just screaming and she really didn't want to talk to anybody, she was just mad.”

She was mad that her twin boy and girl are gone and she was away at work at the time of the fire.

Fire officials said they were called to Nottingham Square Apartments around 10:15 a.m. Smoke and flames broke out in Apartment 27, as neighbors said the father was inside sleeping along with his two infants.

It's not clear how long it took for the family to get out. Paramedics treated the babies inside an ambulance, but not long after, officials said they didn't make it.

Neighbors watched as the father broke down in tears.

Tenant A'Leisha Price lives right above the main office. She and many others believed the fire was started by a heater inside the unit.

“I've never plugged mine in, I just assumed they didn't work,” Price said.

News of the two infant's deaths left many neighbors stunned.

“It's very shocking, I've lived here 10 years,” said Donna Clark, who lives across the street from the apartment. “Just tears me up to know that two more babies are gone.”

The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

A relative posted on News9.com that the "infants' dad was sleeping, smelled smoke, opened the babies' bedroom door, saw space heater on fire, tried to unplug it then doused fire with shower head, grabbed babies and headed outside. His hands and feet are burned, while Mom, my niece, was at work."
