OHP Trooper Hit By Vehicle On I-40 Near Shawnee

<p>An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has been transported to the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 40 near Shawnee, Oklahoma, Tuesday morning. </p>

OHP Trooper Hit By Vehicle On I-40 Near Shawnee

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has been transported to the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 40 near Shawnee, Oklahoma, Tuesday morning.

According to the OHP, just after 8 a.m., the trooper was outside his patrol car, responding to a separate crash, when he was hit by another vehicle on I-40 westbound near the highway 177 exit. Traffic is backed up in the area.

The trooper is alive, and has been transported to the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He suffered injuries to his head and leg.

According to OHP troopers on the scene, two cars spun out due to icy bridge, and the trooper stopped to respond to that crash. While the trooper's patrol car was in the median, a black pickup truck spun out, and the trooper got out of his car to check on the driver of that pickup. That's when another SUV rolled over and hit the trooper.

Troopers believe all of this happened due to icy conditions on the bridge. However, the crash is still under investigation.

The trooper has been with the OHP for 16 years. His name has not been released.
