A beloved dog was stolen from a family visiting Oklahoma City from Minnesota last week and they are going to great lengths to get the animal back.

All day, every day, Mercedes Wessels has been combing parts of Oklahoma City for her canine companion--a red and white collie she first rescued from a ditch at just a few weeks old.

“He’s been going with me everywhere from day one,” she said.

Wessels brought Brisby, the now 10-month-old dog, to town for her barrel race. And when she visited the McDonalds off Meridian and Reno April 24, someone went into her trailer and took the dog.

“He’s my child,” she said. “And with this of course I feel guilt. There are things that I could’ve done differently.”

Since then, Mercedes and her family have been posting flyers, calling shelters and veterinarians.

“I’ve talked to numerous homeless people and people walking around. I’ve brought in flyers to restaurants, gas stations,” she explained.

Her family even hired an investigator from Arkansas with dogs to track Brisby's scent.

The last place they picked up on it was at a park near Bricktown.

Mercedes and her family are desperate for new leads, offering a $1000 reward for Brisby's return.

“I’m just having a hard time,” she said. “I don’t want to leave Oklahoma until I find him and that’s kind of time running out.”
