As the country figures out how to get back to work, there are many people that have never stopped.

It’s essential workers like delivery drivers and mail carriers that have kept communities going.

“Has anybody ever seen anything like this!?” Oklahoma City USPS carrier Roger Hoyt said.

He has been delivering mail for the United States Postal Service for more than 32 years.

“I really enjoy it,” Hoyt said. “I really enjoy interacting with people, which is one reason after a number of years in Moore, I’ve been back downtown. I've been in businesses interacting with people.”

He makes his rounds in the purple face mask made by his wife, a little hand sanitizer and the day’s mail.

“Some mail volume is off now,” He said. “I have the county courthouse on my route and all these attorneys, they're not holding court right now. So, all of their stuff is coming through the mail. So, their mail has increased greatly whereas a lot of mail has dropped off.”

Hoyt said he’s learned a lot over his career as a mail carrier.

“Especially after delivering in Moore for 22 years and going through four tornadoes, after something like this happens, we give them a sense of normalcy when they see us out on the street every day,” he said.

While the streets have gotten lonelier, Hoyt said you can still count on him to make sure the mail runs on time.

“We deliver people's medicines, their checks and their bills, which are very important to them,” Hoyt said. “Just a whole variety of stuff, and packages, lots of packages,” Hoyt said.

“I just enjoy what I do,” he added.

The unofficial USPS motto is “neither snow, nor rain, not heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”  You can add a global pandemic to that list.
