A Bartlesville neighborhood sounded more like a war zone early Thursday morning, March 28. Shell casings littered the ground, and neighbors dodged for cover.

“We ran for our kids and pulled them from their beds,” said one neighbor who didn’t want to be identified.

Broken Arrow Police said two people opened fire on each other with at least three guns around 5 a.m. near Baylor and Madison boulevards - not far from Madison Middle School.

“We had over 30 shots fired so those shots could go anywhere,” said Captain Jay Hastings, with Bartlesville Police.

Police say one of the shooters was hit, and quickly flown to a Tulsa hospital. The other car involved sped off and wasn't found for several hours.

That’s until about 11 o’clock Thursday morning when an OHP trooper found the Dodge Challenger allegedly used in the shooting was found abandoned along Interstate 44 near Bristow.

Suspect Caleb Logan McCabe, 24, was taken into custody midday Thursday in Creek County, police said.  Authorities identified him as a suspect after speaking with people near the crime scene.

“According to the people in the house, and some of the neighbors, Caleb had been staying here for the last couple of weeks at least,” said Hastings.

About an hour and a half after the car was found, someone at the Bristow Walmart recognized McCabe from his picture on the news, and investigators there quickly arrested him.

Bartlesville police now are piecing all of it together, like the exact motive of the shooting, and who else was involved.

“It's very important to us to find out who all was involved and make sure they’re held accountable,” said Hastings.

Police searched the house where McCabe was staying and a truck outside, and found both drugs and guns.

And so far, detectives think this was a longstanding feud that escalated to all of this.

Three other people have been arrested as well on various charges because of the drugs and guns.

The shooting victim is expected to survive.

 This is a developing story.
