I've never seen the television show “Empire,” but I'll bet the writers of the show were taking notes when news broke about one of the show's actors, Jussie Smollett.

If you're not familiar, Smollett made National news when he went to Chicago police claiming to be the victim of a racist, homophobic and political attack.

He says two men in masks beat him, poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck all the while claiming he was in MAGA country, a reference to President Trump.

But three weeks later, Chicago police and a grand jury found evidence, plenty of it, resulting in a 16-count indictment claiming that Smollett had faked the whole thing, they said, to advance his TV career.

He went silent at that point.

But think about it, his accusations could have started a race war Chicago. He tarnished the president and anyone who supported him just for his own benefit.

But wait, Tuesday, March 26, in a plot twist even the Empire writers would envy, all of the charges were suddenly dropped by the state attorney for Chicago, infuriating the police department and the mayor, who blasted the move as a white washing of justice.

He's right and compounding their humiliation, Smollett seemed to flaunt the decision as proof of his innocence.

He got off by forfeiting his $10,000 bond and doing 16 hours of community service.

The feds need to investigate the state attorney's office, because someone made a shady Chicago deal.

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
