Prized Possession Stolen Days After Edmond Woman's Death

An Edmond family already mourning the death of the family Matriarch, is also dealing with theft. 

Ida Newton operated Fashionette Beauty Salon near East 1st Street and South Broadway in downtown Edmond for 52 years. 

Newton died on September 22nd, after a 9-year battle with Cancer. 

Her daughters tell News 9 one of the things that kept her going the past couple years was a large wooden Scarecrow, boosters of Oklahoma City’s Junior Blazers’ hockey team gave her, all decked out in a Junior Blazer’s jersey. 

That Scarecrow was stolen sometime early Thursday from Newton’s front porch. 

Tammy Dokes is Ida’s oldest daughter.

“When someone has cancer, you cling on what little hope you have in life. I know it’s just a scarecrow, but to her it gave her happiness and joy, gave her that spark that she needed to fight that battle,” said Dokes.

The family is asking for the return of the stolen scarecrow, “no questions asked.”
