An old downtown building in Sand Springs now has a new, fresh look.

The city of Sand Springs received a Fresh Paint Days grant from the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful campaign to paint some of the town's rundown buildings.

Joe Shepard said he got a call from city leaders asking if his HillSpring Church small group would be willing to paint a building near 2nd and Main.

"Most of these guys are hands-on guys. They love to work with their hands, they love to get out and do things," Shepard said.

The city used the grant to pay for the paint while Shepard got together this crew of nearly ten guys.

Mayor Mike Burdge said he loves seeing these guys having fun as they clean the place up.

"The fellowship it brings makes our community stronger and at the same time, it gets something done that makes our community look prettier," Burdge said.

Shepard said he hopes their work will inspire someone to bring their business downtown.

"What it's gonna do is it's gonna make someone come by and go, 'you know what? This storefront looks pretty good. Maybe I should rent it'," Shepard said.
