Oklahoma City Police are looking for multiple suspects involved in a hit-and-run wreck that turned into a civilian pursuit early Thursday morning. Police arrested one of the suspects, Malachi Bond, who the victim says pulled a gun on him.

Just before 5 a.m., Steve Hughes was driving down SW 89th Street when a stolen truck full of people came barreling out of a parking lot. Hughes tells News 9 he just wanted them off the streets.

As Hughes was side-swiped he says the silver Dodge Ram spun around, but before he could see its license plate, the driver took off. Hughes followed, calling 911 in the process.

He says, “It’s my daughter’s car. I just bought it for her, so for a dad that’s pretty upsetting.”

At the S. May Avenue intersection, Hughes says a woman riding in the truck hurled something at his car. The truck then turned through the red light, but Hughes stayed with them.

A block later the truck slammed on its brakes.

“When they stopped so fast I was like there’s a reason why they’re stopping, so I stayed back,” says Hughes. “Luckily I did. That’s when they got out with guns.”

Hughes says a man with a shotgun charged at him, so he sped backwards until the man hopped back in the truck, which sped away.

The truck eventually crashed into two cars parked in a driveway, pushing them into a house, and Hughes told police five people jumped out and ran. Police captured only one of them, Malachi Bond, who Hughes identified as the man holding the shotgun.

Police discovered the truck had been reported stolen from Moore.

Hughes says it was important to him to keep following the suspects until police arrived.

“I’m just sick of stuff like this happening,” he says. “I wanted them to get caught…I didn’t want to get shot.”

Officers advise if you encounter a similar situation, please put your own safety first.

Msgt. Gary Knight says, “You do take a chance when you begin following somebody, especially somebody who is behaving in that manner, so we always encourage people to get as much information as they can, but keep themselves safe.”

Police have not released any descriptions of the other suspects, but at least one of them is a woman.
