One Oklahoma City woman is using her past to help shape other women's futures.

Delisa Herbert has turned her life around to open Second Chances thrift store.

“I decided that I wanted to help women who were coming out of prison, coming out of bad situations, living on the streets, and all illegal activities,” said Herbert.

Delisa Herbert uses her thrift store as a re-entry program for women who are trying to get back on their feet.

“I was born into a very sick family, filled with lots of incest and drugs, and alcoholism,” she said. “At around the age of 13ish, my mother sold me for $12,00 to who is my oldest daughters father. And was just you know, thrown into a world of prostitution.”

In her past, Delisa says she's been stabbed, shot, and left for dead. She was also addicted to drugs for 30 years, ran an escort services, and spent 15 years of her life in prison.

But through all of it, Delisa has now dedicated her life to helping others.

“I had a second chance at becoming a human being with a conscience, and that God could love me even though I had done all of those things. Was like a wow moment for me because I was like if I can be saved, I can save so many others,” she said.

The only paid employees at the thrift store, are formerly incarcerated women.

“The incarceration rate for women in Oklahoma is the highest in the nation. We all need to be less divided and come together.”

They can also come and work to get their community service hours. But Delisa says Second Chances is an open door for anyone in need.
