A Sand Springs man describes the moment he knew someone broke into his house and stole thousands of dollars worth of guns, ammo, and electronics.

"It's just kind of a sick feeling, knowing somebody has been in there where they don't belong," declared theft victim Mike Schneider.

Schneider says he has lived in this house for more than a decade and has never had a break-in.

He says he knew something was wrong the moment he drove onto his street.

“I could see these gates standing open and I never leave the gates open,” he said.  “Then I came around the corner and the lights were on in the house, and I don’t leave the lights on in the house, and the door was open, and this just don’t look good.”

Schneider says he walked inside knowing a stranger had been there while he was gone.  He says he immediately spotted things missing as he walked through the house.

“There is usually a desktop computer sitting on that desk right there, and it wasn’t there,” said Schneider.  “Most of the drawers were out and stuff was on the floor.”

The thief stopped at nothing – stealing everything from laptops to prescription medication to firearms.

“One was a 12-gauge shotgun and there was a .22 rifle,” Schneider said.

They also stole his wife’s death certificate.  She passed away a little over a month ago.

Schneider says “they took the darn death certificate and marriage license.”

He says they even stole a brisket out of the freezer.

“It’s just not something decent people do,” he declared.  “People work hard for what they have.  It’s just not right, you guys go out and take it and ruin people’s lives.  It’s not life changing, but it’s a big disruption in life.”

As police work to find those responsible, Schneider is asking homeowners to be vigilant.

He says to “keep the house locked up as secure as you can…a security system is not a bad idea anymore.”

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Sand Springs Police Department.
