A body was recovered inside of a vehicle found Saturday morning in the North Canadian River, fire officials said.
A recovery effort was underway for the car within the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge boundaries, according to the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
Officials said fishermen reported hearing screeching tires, and then seeing taillights sink into the water overnight.
Crews began the search for the vehicle about 2 a.m. Saturday, but were unable to locate it. Fire crews returned Saturday morning and found the vehicle with a woman inside.
According to report, the vehicle was heading westbound on Highway 66 and crashed into the barrier for an unknown reason and the vehicle went into the water when the driver overcorrected.
The woman was identified as Marissa Martinez, 20, by police.
