A Tulsa man is recovering after being dragged a block and a half while trying to stop a thief from stealing his car.

He says it all started with a fake pizza delivery call.

When no one came to the door, Tracy glanced back at his car, a 2005 Nissan Sentra, and realized there was a man walking right for it.  He says he knew that guy was going to steal his car, so he dropped the pizza, ran to his car, and flung open the door and tried to get inside just as the thief hit the gas.

Tracy now has road rash on his face, both arms, and his legs.  He says he held on for as long as he could, but the driver was simply going too fast.

"He was just shoving me out.  Every time I gained a foothold, he was pushing me back," he said.  “I bounced out, rolled a couple of times, hit my face on the concrete, on the curb, my tooth went through my lip and I chipped my tooth.”

Tracy says he normally locks his car when he delivers pizza, but he was in a nice neighborhood near 111th and Memorial and only 15 feet from the car.  He also says he has a concealed carry permit and has lots of training, but everything happened so fast.

“I consider myself hyper vigilant,” stated Tracy.  “I consider myself all the things most people aren’t and none of it did me any good.”

He’s replayed it over in his mind, thinking of all the things he wishes he would have done, but he says he realizes all of it would have been impossible the way things unfolded.

He says the smart thing would have been to just let the thief take the car.

“I couldn’t have stopped myself from doing what I did,” he said.  “But I wish, now that I’ve been turned to hamburger, I wish I would’ve let him have it.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Tracy while he recovers.
