Beckham County Man Arrested After Elderly Woman Beaten, Robbed
BECKHAM COUNTY, Oklahoma - Police in Beckham County arrested a man involved with a burglary and assault of an elderly woman outside of her home, Sunday evening.
The Bekham County Sheriff's Office was called to a home northwest of Elk City Saturday morning after a woman in her seventies was assaulted by a man hiding on her property, officials said. Authorities said she was beaten with a shovel.
The woman's home was burglarized and the suspect stole her vehicle and left the woman seriously injured, according to police. Michael Wayne Louis was identified as a person of interest.
On Sunday morning, deputies used the Sheriff’s Office’s drone to do an aerial search of the area around Louis' residence. “In a matter of about 15 minutes, our deputy located the vehicle, which had been ditched near a pond on a lease road just a few miles from the assault,” Sheriff Derek Manning said.
Louis was eventually located at a house in northeast Elk City.
“We received a great deal of help from Elk City PD and the Drug Task Force during our search, and we value their partnership very highly,” Manning said.
The suspect identified as Michael Wayne Louis was taken into custody about 7 p.m. Sunday.
