Third Metro CBD Store Broken Into In A Week

Three CBD stores were broken into this week across the metro with most recent happening early Friday morning. The suspect was caught on camera but he did not go after any CBD products.

The rash of burglaries is causing owners to start stepping up their security.

Surveillance cameras show a slim white man smashing through the front door of CBD World with a rock around 4 a.m. Friday. The alarm activated immediately, audibly startling the thief.

“He freaks out,” said CBD World spokesperson Alexander Williams. “He knows exactly where to go though. That’s the crazy part. He runs right to the (alarm) system and rips it out.”

Even more shocking to Williams is that the thief did not touch any of the hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of CBD products on display at Northwest Expressway location.

“It makes no sense at all,” he said, “especially running straight to that, so I guess he had maybe more intentions of stealing money.”

The CBD industry is a mostly cash business, yet Williams says the man did not get away with any. He said none of his employees recognize the man, but they hope you can help identify him. 

As more of these stores are targeted, security is getting a closer look. The largest chain in the metro, CBD Plus, has cameras installed throughout each of its 30 locations, but vice president Jake Chilcoat admits alarms and cameras will not deter the boldest of thieves, so protection on the back end is a must.

Chilcoat said, “It’s really hard to find the right insurance on a product like this because a lot of companies stay away from it, so that’s been one of the most important things for us.”

While the motive behind these break-ins is still unclear, business owners encourage anyone interested in CBD to come and try it the legal way.

Chilcoat said, “Specifically targeting CBD stores, I don’t know what they’re looking for because if you need something we’re more than happy to provide it for you.”

CBD World is now playing to install additional cameras on the outside of the store as well as more lighting to prevent future attacks.
