A Tulsa gymnastics facility that took a direct hit from a tornado in 2015 is raising money for a tornado shelter.

Aim High Academy just received a $200,000 challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation.  That’s on top of a $100,000 grant from the Will Smith Charitable Trust.

“We are so incredibly grateful,” said Jennifer Patterson, the Academy’s founder.  “When they come to gymnastics, we don’t want them worrying about the weather.  We want them to be able to stay focused and continue to work toward their dreams.”

The academy’s goal is $2 million to build a large storm shelter capable of withstanding 150 mile per hour winds.

Aim High Academy has one year to raise the rest of the money.
