The remains of a U.S. serviceman killed in the Pearl Harbor attack landed Friday in Tulsa.

Navy Fireman 2nd Class John D. Wheeler, 26, was assigned to the USS Oklahoma. The ship was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese attacked on December 7, 1941. The attack killed 429 crewman, including Wheeler.

Wheeler, along with other unidentified servicemen, was buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. In 2015, the Department of Defense disinterred the remains for analysis with modern scientific methods.

He will be buried near Harrison, Arkansas beside his parents and brother Earnest.

His family said everyone called him Dennis.

Born in 1915, he was 26 years old when he died serving for the U.S. Navy.
