The Tulsa Fire Department said it was most likely a strong cleaning chemical that caused the College Bound Academy to shut down for the day and sent more than a dozen kids to the hospital.

"I was in clinicals and I was like, oh my gosh, what's going on," said Parent Deuter Nyanyoue.

Nyanyoue is just one of many concerned parents who rushed to College Bound Academy to pick up their kids.

"We just got a phone call basically saying something's wrong, so we should come get the kids. And that's pretty much it, we don't know like the full details," he said.

Nyanyoue said his daughter is fine, thankfully but the rash gave parents and school leaders quite the scare.

"We just had a couple kids who had a rash, and we didn't know what it was. So, we just wanted to make sure everyone was safe," said Maria Ackerman with College Bound Academy.

Captain Stan May with the Tulsa Fire Department said 13 kids and two adults went to St. Francis Hospital.

He said some were transported by EMSA and some were taken there by their parents.

"Once they got them de-conned, which is basically a shower, got them out of those clothes and into some clean, dry clothes, everything started to improve," May said.

He said all the students were around 7-years-old and were from the same classroom.

They'll all be released and they're doing fine.
At this point, May said they're pretty sure it was a too-strong cleaning agent that caused the outbreak.

"We're going to wait and get all the facts before we determine exactly what it was, but those are the things we want the school to take a look at so we don't have a repeat incident," May said.

He said the building is safe and students will be able to return to school Friday.
