A school threat ended with a teenage student in police custody facing a terrorism hoax charge.

The superintendent at Oktaha schools said the senior student was arrested after making verbal threats to his classmates. He said the classmates did the right thing by telling their parents, who alerted school officials.

Muskogee County Sheriff Rob Frazier pulled double duty as parent and sheriff when he learned a student made threats toward his son's school.

"You've got mama calling asking dad what's going on at the school, but, at the same time, you're trying to be sheriff. So, it's tough," Frazier said.

The sheriff said school administrators told him about the threat around 7:45 Monday morning and deputies responded immediately.

Frazier said, "99 out 100 alarm calls that we go on are false, but there's always that one out of 100, and we want to make sure that we're vigilant and that we do the right thing, so, hopefully, we can prevent this."

Frazier couldn't go into specifics about the threat saying, "It was just a threat, a serious threat, to the entire school."

Superintendent Jerry Needham said they take all threats seriously.

"By the acts of society as a whole, and what has happened, you can't ignore anything," Needham said. "Hopefully, this will serve as an example to our other students here, as well as maybe other students in other schools, that you cannot, you cannot make those statements."

He said they preach to their students to let them know if anything seems off, and that's exactly what the students did Monday.

"If you see, if you hear, if you know something, say something," Needham said.

Frazier says the student has been charged with terrorism hoax.
