Hundreds in Moore are on the lookout for a single, but special dollar bill.

The search started as small plea on Facebook, and is now gaining momentum online as complete strangers are raising reward money. The dollar was recently stolen from a family, who says they’ll do whatever they can to get it back.

But first, here’s the backstory.

This one starts close to two years ago. Jacy Chapman’s grandmother Gina Miller had passed away, and Chapman said she was struggling from that loss. Soon after, she said she found the dollar, and her grandmother’s name was written across the top. Chapman swears it looks just like her Nanny’s signature.

“I put it in my car and it's been there ever since. I look at it when I need to. It's always with me and now it's gone,” said Chapman.

On December 19, Chapman’s car was broken into. She said she accidentally left it unlocked. That night, the thief got away with about $15 and a Starbucks gift card.

Still, nothing compares to the pain of losing that single bill. Chapman said it was pinned next to her grandmother’s obituary, and whoever broke in had to have known what they were doing.

“I just don't understand who does something like that,” said Chapman.

She said she didn’t discover the break-in to the next morning when she was loading her kids up in the family car. Heartbroken, she soon posted on a community Facebook page.

Here’s where everyone else comes in. The post has been shared hundreds of times, and many are pledging to donate money to the person who can reunite Chapman with the signed bill.

“To see how many people were coming behind me, supporting me, and sharing the post. I was like seriously? Everyone else cares about my dollar,” she said.

The family also had their Christmas lights stolen, and say they’ve heard six other homes have also had problems with light thieves.

A neighbor gave Chapman a photo and said on the same night, around the same time, their security camera caught a man trying to break-in to their car too.

The family wants to know who this mystery man is and asks anyone with information to call the Moore Police Department at 405-793-5171.
