With just five days left until Christmas, many students are looking forward to getting a break from school.

But some schools are already looking ahead to next year.

It took some sliding around but district leaders chose to extend their Thanksgiving break from three to five days

In Edmond Public Schools, two committees begin working on school calendars two years in advance.

Aside from an extended turkey day holiday,  one of the other changes staff say is important is giving teacher collaborative days to plan while students get the day off.

Committee members weighed many concerns in making the decision including whether attendance and attentiveness would be present in students in the week leading up to Thanksgiving vacation.

Other school districts also extending their Thanksgiving holiday include: Deer Creek, Mustang, Yukon, Piedmont, Bethany, Moore, Guthrie, Choctaw and Mid-Del.
